Yoga as Healing: Trauma-Informed Practices for Every Body and Background
Have you ever wondered what trauma-informed yoga really means—or found yourself seeking better ways to create a sense of safety for students who may be carrying invisible challenges into your classes? Whether you want to make your current classes more welcoming to all or are interested in offering classes to groups dealing with specific traumas, this training is for you. This training will give you the knowledge and skills you need to cultivate environments that support choice, safety, and agency for students living with trauma of many kinds—which, in truth, includes most of us.
By the end of this training, participants will:
- Understand the basics of trauma and how it impacts the body and brain.
- Learn foundational principles of trauma-informed yoga.
- Practice trauma-sensitive teaching skills (language, choice, presence) with a focus on teaching to specific populations. Areas of focus will vary based on interests of the group, but could include: individuals with addiction, those living with cancer, seniors, people with disability.
- Explore how yoga can be a tool for service and social change.
- Reflect on self-care, ethics, and boundaries in teaching yoga.
